I remember someone having a Stargate with the same problem not so long ago, as well as several people asking about power supply problems with Williams games (Defender, Stargate, Joust, Robotron, Sinistar). I have a Joust that I got a while back that blew out RAM 1-3-1 several times, never back to back, just random. I recently got the parts needed to convert the Joust into a Robotron and proceeded to swap out the Joust parts and add the Robotron parts. I kept the boards intact only changing the ROM and sound boards. Robotron ran, and started eating RAM chips at a dizzying pace, always RAM 1-3-1. I asked the r.g.v.a.c. crowd about this and got several different ideas about what it was, one of which was power. I decided to swap out the stock WMS power supply and put in a newer switching type. Well, I started the conversion looking with my multmeter at the voltages to determine what the +5, -5 and +12 volt wires were.. Somewhere along the way I pulled the WMS power pcb out and took a look at it. Seems several of the solder joints for the power input connection were cracked, and 2 or so were completely broken. Pulled out the trusty soldering iron and resoldered ALL of the connections and reinstalled the stock setup to test it out. Well, the Robotron has been running without incident for quite sometime now. I am confident that my RAM problems are solved for now. I can't say that this will solve everyone's problems, but it is well worth the half an hour or so it takes to perform. LMK if this helps anyone or if you have any questions. -- -Steven- For fun, not status. -- ANTI-SPAM IN EFFECT.
